Just two weeks ago, Mazzoni ruled out a bid for the San Rafael supervisorial job. "I'm not running," she told the Marin Independent Journal. "I'm enjoying what I do. I'm able to work on public policy, which I like."
Being aware of the relentless attempts by PG&E to kill the Marin Clean Energy plan, I wondered if PG&E were again interfering in our local politics.
"But on Monday Mazzoni said she had a change of heart following a flood of calls from supporters."

MEA is cleaner and cheaper
If you've jumped the gun and opted out of Marin Clean Energy because of PG&E's scare tactics (delivered through their front organization the so-called "Common Sense Coalition"), then there is some news you need to hear. That move will cost you - big.
Call PG&E and ask them how many rate hikes they have pending at the California Public Utilities Commission. The answer is 10, to the tune of $5 billion.

An anti-tax group and a coalition of businesses quietly led by Texas oil companies have launched a signature drive for a November ballot initiative that would suspend California's pioneering law to combat global warming.
Meanwhile, a Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E)-bankrolled measure that consumer groups and other utility companies characterize as a--ahem--power grab by the Northern California energy giant has already made the June 8 ballot.
Assembly Bill 32, which requires California greenhouse gas levels to be rolled back to 1990 levels by 2020, was signed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, who, naturally, opposes the initiative, saying it would cripple the state's emerging clean-energy industry.

Bakersfield jcox@bakersfield.com | Friday, Mar 19 2010 05:56 PM Pacific Gas and Electric Co. officials came to Bakersfield Friday morning to make their case for Proposition 16, the ballot initiative that would change the state Constitution to require two-thirds voter approval before a local government could form its own electric utility.
A company representative participated in a private debate before the Greater Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce's Governmental Review Council, which plans to discuss the measure next week with an eye toward voting whether to support or oppose it.
