ARCATA – Proposition 16 is a voter-initiated constitutional amendment on the June 8, 2010 election ballot and is funded almost entirely by Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E).
At the May 19, 2010 City Council meeting, the City of Arcata joined over 60 local governments, 25 business organizations, more than 60 civic organizations and 40 public officials who have endorsed a 'No' vote on Proposition 16.

Pacific Gas and Electric has thus far put $46.1 million dollars into promoting California Proposition 16, which, if passed, would require a two-thirds majority vote to create any local public electricity agency. The company is the primary financial sponsor to the Yes on 16 campaign, and this expenditure, and other proclaimed company "shenanigans", have some PG&E shareholders so angry and embarrassed that they are apologizing to the residents of California.
"We are sorry that a company that we have invested in, and from which we expected ethical corporate responsibility, has behaved in such a terrible fashion", laments Diane Tippen, a member of "PG&E Shareholders Against PG&E", or P-SAP, for short.

Marin Clean Energy, an alternative to Pacific Gas and Electric, went online this month.
As of May 15, Charles McGlashan's home is 100-percent powered by renewable energy. He has a "deep green" account with Marin Clean Energy(MCE), Marin County, California's own energy authority launched just this month that McGlashan himself helped to create. MCE is an alternative to the state's major utility, Pacific Gas & Electric, and is responsible for sourcing and purchasing the power while PG&E continues to deliver it. The MCE site boasts that the program "supplies nearly twice the renewable energy content that [Marin residents] currently receive - at the same rates [they] currently pay."
(Planet Green original story)
Charles McGlashan is a Supervisor in Marin County and on the Marin Energy Authority's Board of Directors. I saw him speak this week about MCE—he was in town because Boulder is considering implementing a similar model.
