DONE - Larkspur passed resolution
YEAH--we got a resolution to oppose Prop 16 onto the Larkspur City Council agenda for next month.
The idea of passing a resolution against Prop 16 was presented to City Councilmember Larry Chu earlier today, who then announced that request at the meeting tonight. Subsequently, the Council decided it was an idea worthy of discussion, and agreed to agendize it for April.
In his comments to his colleagues, Councilmember Chu focused on
-
impact on local control
-
2/3 majority vote requirement, MCE did not figure into the effective logic that he used. In public comments speakers refrained focusing attention to MCE and instead repeated Chu's 2 points and added
-
no competition will lead to near monopoly with higher rates for ratepayers... noting PGE already is among highest rates in US and
-
impact on future of renewable energy in a community that has demonstrated its commitment to sustainable lifestyles .. PG $E's lack of commitment/ ability to meeting RPS standard/should 16 pass the utility has the ability to negatively affect potential growth of RE in Larkspur/all of CA (I did throw in MCE there in reference to 25 % RE vs. PG$E's current inability to meet the 20...)
Please encourage your Larkspur contacts to attend public comment time at the Larkspur City Council meeting next month and speak up in favor of a resolution against Prop 16. When I get date (not sure if it will be 1st or 3rd Wed of month) will pass along via this site.
